Fading, Falling, Forming, Flowering - HONG, Yi-Ting Solo Exhibition

From the sea foam that leaves the ocean, to raindrops that merge with all living things—what kind of texture will these evaporating traces of water ultimately unfold into?

‘Fading, Falling, Forming, Flowering’, takes prints as an essential medium, to look at printmaking concepts and methods as a way of sensing time.

When printmaking, time, and vapor detach from the matrix, from standardization and belonging—after experiencing fading, falling, and blurring, and eventually merging with the world—I realized: wholeness is simply the state of the present. Through the ongoing process of “alignment and realignment,” I began to see the world more clearly, and also perceive the texture within myself.

(At this moment, everything—having been printed, shredded, transformed—returns to its original form. This kind of existence is like vapor: present without needing to take on shape; like a psychological climate: wordless, yet perceptible.

Perhaps‘Fading, Falling, Forming, Flowering’ is a response left behind by time itself—an exercise in re-encoding the visible and the invisible.)

Let the daily calendar return to the unknown, to its original form. Let printed matter once bearing the sun, moon, and stars be reborn. In other words, I transformed one kind of paper into another. The calendar returned to itself—a rich yet quiet piece of paper. It no longer needs to be time, no longer needs to carry fortune or misfortune. Just like before calendars were invented, when humans looked to the skies and the seas, and slowly came to understand: it is not that nothing and everything are opposites—it is that nothing is everything.

Two years ago, Carp Gallery invited me to write a poem about water; two years later, I realized—it was a poem about myself.
